What
part of Provence have you visited?
We're making a whirlwind tour; first we did a few days in Paris,
then we drove down to Provence, spent time in Avignon, Arles, St.
Tropez, and last night in Nice. And now an afternoon in
Grasse.
Was everything as you had expected?
We loved every minute. One thing that was perhaps unexpected was
that we found the French people so very helpful. Everyone had warned
us beforehand that the French have a bad reputation when it comes to
foreigners, but we found that not true at all. Everyone has been
very gracious, making an effort to communicate in English.
Any bad experiences though?
Apart from a parking ticket just now, I can't think of anything
important. Perhaps this: we found the signs on local roads difficult
to follow or even see. One time, at night, we got completely lost on
a mountain road. I t didn't bother me, actually found it exciting,
but it made others a bit nervous.
Anne: my negative point would be the noise in the towns in the early
morning. Last night in Nice, they started to clean the streets at 2
am and pick up the garbage at 5 am. I just couldn't sleep.
Highpoints?
After Paris and in Provence: we loved Saint-Tropez. I'm sure it
helps being there off season [ed: March]. In general we love the
shopping and the food. Moules frites [ed: mussels with French
fries] is a favorite.
Ah, here's our guide. We got to go, see the factory. Helps being the
only English-speaking visitors now; we'll get the royal treatment!
