Is
this your first visit to Provence?
Yes, we've just arrived from Paris.
First impressions?
Friendly people, fabulous sights.
Why did you choose to visit Provence?
Gay: my other daughter and husband decided to look for antiques in
and around Isle-sur-la Sorgue and asked us to join them. Today, we
offered to baby-sit Olivia. Instead of hanging around the hotel, we
decided to tour les Alpilles. Saint Rémy, Les Baux-des-Provence and
more, with Olivia in tow!
How do the French react to a baby in tow?
Very positively. Everywhere we go, we are very welcomed. In Paris,
we dined at a three-star restaurant and the staff was so
accommodating to the baby, supplying a pillow so she could sleep
quietly while we had our lunch. Similarly today at a restaurant. No
one said: "No babies allowed." They just gave us a table
in a quiet corner and smiled.
What was the most impressive sight today?
The approach to Les Baux-de-Provence. The dramatic lime-stone
mountains, the zig-zag roads, the olive groves, and finally the
ancient town itself. Later on, we visited the olive cooperative of
Mausanne, which is very much worth while.
Anything negative about your journey?
Loren: hard to say, but we've only been here a few days. A
caution for future travelers though: if you take the TGV, pay
attention to the fact that the train goes very fast. Before you know
it, you arrive at your destination, relatively speaking. That
happened to us. We were relaxing, not expecting to get from Paris to
Avignon for many hours. At the last minute, we had to scramble to
get our luggage together.
Would you to return to Provence?
Absolutely! To the same area with more time to explore. Also to the
coastal region if we find the time.
